The four key questions you must ask any advisor are:
“What will it cost?”
“Exactly what will I get for the fees that I pay?”
“Are there any other internal costs, fees or charges for any of the products or services that you have recommended that you have not already disclosed?”
“How much will you personally receive as a result of our work together?”
There is, too often, a massive discrepancy between what the advisor says you will get via their
sales talk, flashy brochure, website and marketing material and what advisors ACTUALLY
DELIVER. Therefore, never hire an advisor without speaking to their current clients to see what kind of services they are receiving for what they are paying and whether they are happy with the advisors level of service. You will also want to ask how long they have been a client to see if the service levels are consistent over time.
The following is what I believe every client deserves and should demand from a true financial professional:
A Clearly Articulated Vision for Your Ideal Life - This is not your fantasy life, but instead is a detailed, written description of exactly what your life will look like, sound like and feel like when you have accomplished your goals. How will you live each day, week and year? How will your time be spent exactly? What will bring you joy and fulfillment? Who will be in your life and what role will each play? What about this life makes it ideal to you? How will you be connected to your community and the world? How will you continue to grow as a person and family? How will you maintain your health and vitality?
A Clearly Articulated Vision for Your Spouses Ideal Life - You must ensure that your spouse’s Ideal Life is also clearly articulated and documented. It is likely that there will be differences between your two Ideal Life visions. Those differences should be discussed and integrated to ensure you are collectively moving toward a common clearly articulated and documented future.
Clearly Defined Values -
Roy Disney said “Decision making is easy if your values are clear.” It is critical that your advisor knows what your personal and family values are and they are in writing and ranked in order of importance. If financial decisions are made independent of your vision and values, you will be operating at cross purposes and you will ultimately be unhappy with the outcomes.
THIS IS CRITICAL TO YOUR SUCCESS BECAUSE ALL FUTURE FINANCIAL DECISIONS WILL BE PULLED THROUGH THE FILTER OF YOUR IDEAL LIFE VISION AND VALUES.

We suggest that you interview several. You’ll quickly learn that there are very few who are fiduciaries, believe in passive investing and have a process to create an Integrated Aligned Overarching Strategy.
