Allow yourself to be rescued!
Time and time again when I interview new clients, all they have ever received from many of
these so-called reputable financial services firms and advisors was money management and a
few other peripheral services of little value to the client. Most meetings unfortunately involve the advisor and the money-controlling spouse. The vast majority of the time the wife is left out of the meetings. The fact that many advisors ignore the women’s role in finances, and have not learned how to build a relationship with them, is unfortunate. Regardless of who controls the finances, the couple that plans together, thrives together.
Does your advisor make it mandatory that both of you attend all meetings?
Lastly, advisors’ meetings are lame discussions around the markets, economy, or the world – all
discussions that the advisor has absolutely no control over but pretends to know. As a result,
there is a lot of smoke and mirrors, classic sales tactics (selling fear and greed), inaccurate crystal ball forecasting, and industry jargon. These salespeople flaunt their confidence about the likely direction of stocks and bonds as a sales strategy, to encourage people to buy products they don’t need. Many people have become brainwashed into thinking their advisor has superpowers and can time the market. This is never true.
So why do so many complacent people continue to be hypnotized into working with advisors
providing little or no service? The short answer, BS baffles brains. Because people want to
believe they have their best interests at heart and their back. Just because you want to believe it, will not make it true!
The vast majority of advisors are dramatically under-delivering and overcharging. As long as people are happy working with an advisor who does essentially nothing for them other than money management, the madness will continue.
Many people say they are happy with their advisor, but they could be so much happier. You can
become better informed, discover new opportunities and make much smarter choices. It’s up to you to consider these new possibilities and move forward. It is easy to learn how not to get
ripped off. You just have to know where to look and what questions to ask.
